It has transpired that around noon GMT on 16th April the DCP-o-matic project in
our bug database was deleted by actors unknown. It appears that they gained
administrator rights in our installation of the Mantis bug tracker.
If you have a Mantis account and you use the same password on any other sites
you are strongly advised to change this password everywhere it is used.
At the moment I don't think anything else on dcpomatic.com was compromised.
The bug tracker has been restored from a backup and I don't think much has been
lost. If you added a bug or comment since 16th April you will need to re-add
it.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
Kind regards,
Carl
Thank you for your script, Wolfgang.
Today, I finally managed to install it on my machine and ran the inspection
using it to find out I had no errors with my InterOP DCP I had created
earlier this week.
It gave me many hints related to Digital Cinema Naming Convention, but no
errors.
By the way, I'd like to give you a feedback on what your script might not
have caught, but since I have the trial version of easyDCP player, it won't
show me what the actual warning it gave me. So, unfortunately, I don't
think I can help you about it.
Thank you all for your replies once again!
Best regards,
S.N.

Hello everyone,
I had a quick question.
What's the difference between DCP-o-matic and Davinci Resolve (without
using easyDCP plugin) in terms of how they convert source material into
jpeg2000 (XYZ color space)?
My master video is Apple Prores HQ.
Basically, I have used Davinci Resolve (without using easyDCP plugin) and
openDCP to make a DCP in the past, and I was successful, but Davinci
Resolve crashes randomly sometimes these days, so I wanted to give
DCP-o-matic a shot.
I guess I can just do a test conversion with DCP-o-matic and check the
result with my eyes, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask...
If anyone with the knowledge could kindly inform me about it, I'd be much
appreciated!
Best regards,
S.N.
Hi There,
No need for help at this point. I found the package. The directory
structure is a little different. I just had to look.
Cheers.

Hi Carl.
I hope all is well.
I am trying to use your program for the first time.
I obtained it from the classifications division and installed it from
the business card USB they circulated.
I am following the instructions in the word file they included.
I am trying to make a silent DCP with a "No Smoking announcement of 10
seconds.
It all seems to work OK but when I try to load the package onto the GDC
Server I can see the folder I have made but when I try to ingest I get
the message "No Packages Found".
I have looked in the folder. It seems to have files with bits in them...
Just wondering if there might be anything silly I could have done??
Appreciate your thoughts.
Many thanks,
Scott.

Not strictly related to DCP-o-matic - but does anyone know a way to edit bitmap subtitle streams in e.g. VOBs from a DVD? DCP-o-matic allows to change size, position and color. Wondering wether it was possible to add a list view - and then, as once proposed for timed text, allow to edit in/out times, shift titles, erase individual titles?
Wondering wether there could be a way to turn this all compatible with PNG subtitles? After all, there is not so much difference in handling between bitmap subs and PNGs. Would be cool if both could be dealt with through the same interface!
- Carsten
When did this happen?!!!
Carl! How you dare not making a big announcement for it!
By the way, congratulations for finally getting rid of the
celluloid-thingy in a DCP-thingy logo...

Just seeing the numbers from wide releases in US. Basically, non-SMPTE
theaters are not relevant anymore. Some major studios are already nearly
fully SMPTE, theaters that didn't do the minimal updates will do them now,
for sure.
I would insist in going back to default to SMPTE as the standard for new
installs.

If you send the cerificate chain they should be able to unchain it (
using an utulity which comes with qube , or manually)
and install the root and intermidiate certificates on windows using mmc.exe.
Then they can create DKDM for DoM using the pem cerificate

I am working with someone who is having an issue with importing
certificates that were exported from DCP-o-matic into QubeMaster Pro to
create a DKDM.
I exported the cert through "Export DCP decryption certificate..." in the
Keys tab in preferences on v2.9.0 for OS X.
When they import the .pem file I exported they receive the following error:
Certificate(s) validation in progress...
> "dcpomatic.smpte-430-2.LEAF(SHA256)" signer certificate chain is not
terminating in a root certificate
> "dcpomatic.smpte-430-2.LEAF(SHA256)" validation failed
> Result: KDM generation failed.
They believe the issue to be on my end. Any thoughts on what may be going
on?

Can anyone tell me what system AMC theaters uses? What projector and what server?
I need to format a drive to deliver a dcp to them.

Hello
I've used DCP-o-Matic on a Windows machine to create a DCP for a short film
I made. Worked great. I entered the short film in a film festival and got
accepted. They are asking me for a Linux compatible DCP. Do I need to
create the DCP on Linux for it to be Linux compatible?
Thanks
Joseph

Absolutely marvelous to hear. And now, it is Sunday. When is/was your screening? Was that a success as well?
Do any of the instructions need changing for accuracy or clarity?
Did you use any links that proved helpful?
Did you find a person to help you?
How long was the process once you started on the path?

And are you okay with that? At first sight, one would say that it's nice neutral black'nwhite. But some people actually intend a colored monochromatic lookc, e.g. sepia.
While VLC does a bad job of playing back DCPs, it seems the screen-grabs are nicely color corrected. So, if that is the color rendering you intended, your DCP should be fine on a DCP projector.

hello,
I recently created a DCP of my short film, but when I play it, the video
stutters by a LOT. I'm running a high end PC (Windows 7), playing the file
off a SSD. I'm trying to figure out asap if its an issue of my PC, the
player I'm using or the DCP file itself. The player is called DigitAll DCP
Player, and I'm awaiting a response from them on the issue. If its only an
issue of the player, I should be fine since I'm sure the venue at the
festival will have good enough hardware. If it's an issue with the DCP file
though, I really need this figured out in time for next week.
Thank you!
Hello Carl,
it is possible to make DCPs for BARRIER-FREE FILMS WITH DCP O MATIC?
Particular for blind people? We know that it needs a additional sound track.
We want to make it for a low Budget Arthouse Film. And we need to include a sound track for blind people.
Best regards,
Dominik

I assisted a Short-Film DCP conversion, they supplied 10 versions, of wich 9 are subtitled. Among those with special charsets, the greek and cyrillic versions seem to come out nicely, but the chinese version doesn't show any subtitles, just three dots per title in some cases. I have yet to see the source material for these subtitles, but anyway, does someone have experience with chinese subtitles and proper font/charset selection? These are SMPTE DCPs.

Hi,
A screening for this saturady is coming up and I am going nuts. I really need your advice please.
I have been using DCPoMATIC without any problem for DCP and KDMs. I’ve done both and have protected them without any problem.
Today I came back to do another KDM from a project in diplomatic and the button for the screens I have setup is greyed out. I do not understand this. The certificates (pen files) are good and in the dates are also ok in them.
My questions for trying to solve this:
1. Is it possible that the project has been corrupted?
2.Is there any way I can create a KDM if I have the key for the encrypted material?
3. Can you create a KDM of a DCP that has not yet been created as a whole cus of its metadata?
Thanks
Eduardo

HI Carl, thank you for DCP-O-matic. Do you mean will by DCP with played

Hello!!
I need to add subtitles to an encrypted DCP. I know that with my software (NeoDCP) I can screen a supplemental DCP: I need to create a different DCP with only the subtitles' stream (no video, no audio).
Is it possibile with DCP o'MATIC?
Thank you

Hi Carl,
I made in the summer DCPs with 2.8.0 version and It was perfect.
And now with the 2.9.0 and 2.9.39 version, I have to redo some new versions with english subtitles and I have a lot of sound clicking problems.
I use the same 5.1 sound file.
Any ideas?
Best Regards.

Hi everyone,
I understand clearly the answer about Carsten.
But like I said the source file from a sound mixing in our studio, was used a lot of time for many DCP in many theaters.
And when the DCP was made with the version 2.8.0 it was awesome!
The clicking problems arrived with the 2.9.0 and after.
I have some software for check the levels and it was not very high when the clicking appears.
All my best

Hi all.
Apologies that this is a bit of a "noob" question and not actually
related to DCP-o-matic, but Google is not my friend today it seems, and
I'm sure someone here know the answer.
I'm co-ordinating delivery of an encrypted DCP feature made by someone
else to a cinema. The filmmakers need the server cert to make a KDM. The
only information the cinema has been able to give me is "Doremi DCP-2K4
serial no. <six digit number>".
Is there any online database to look up the server cert from the serial
number? I really hope that this information is not proprietary. The clue
that it shouldn't be is the word "public" in "public key cryptography"!
Many thanks,
Jim
Hi all,
Version 2.9.40 which is here:
http://dcpomatic.com/test-download
is a release candidate for 2.10.0. If you get the chance, please test and
report any show-stopping problems! I'll probably put out 2.10.0 some time
tomorrow if nothing bad becomes apparent.
Thank you,
Carl
I need to convert my 30sec. Commercial to DCP but MPEG2 and not 2k.
By using DCP-o-matic, I was able to create and running the file in Local
theater showed this error:-
"An existing connection was forcibly closed by remote host."
Please help.
Hi all,
I will not change any more translatable strings in DCP-o-matic before the
release of 2.10.0. If you have time over the next week or so to tend to
any of the translations:
http://dcpomatic.com/i18n
(or even provide a new one!) it would be great to hear from you.
All the best,
Carl
Hi, when I start DCP o-Matic 2 my system (Yosemite) start to analyze the software without open it.

I ask for your experience on this. I never fully understood the signing thing.
Can I create a supplemental for a signed unencrypted DCP that I didn't create?
I always thought that it's not possible, as I don't have the adequate
certificates.
I heard that an unsigned Interop supplemental may work, even with
encrypted material on the new CPL.
A couple tests with DOM failed, but I'm not really sure if it was
something else.
Thanks!

Hi there! I am using the most current version of DCP-O-Matic on a Mac system.
Following the instructions I authored a feature-length DCP to a mac formatted drive. Everything seems to check out.
The projectionist at the theater reported that the drive would not work at all (due to their system being a PC). I then created an Ex-FAT drive with the same DCP package files, but the Projectionist reported his system could not see any packages present to load.
What should I do? We have an important screening in a few days. I do not have access to a PC - is there any way that I can create a workable DCP using a mac?

Evan

Ok got it. Thank you for your valuable replies.
Searching more carefully in the ML archives I also found a message from you

Hi all,
I wonder if it would be possible to run encode server instances through the
Internet, rather than through a LAN.
If I understood correctly, the current implementation is something like
this:
The master dcpomatic2 broadcasts in its LAN a "I mean really, Ray, it's
used." msg to UDP/6193 to trigger a <ServerAvailable> msg back to its
TCP/6193 from an eventual dcpomatic2_server instance.
Once the master has content to encode, it sends <EncodingRequest> to the
encoding servers on TCP/6192.
Forgetting about the automatic encoding server discovery part, a possible
approach would be something similar to what Jim proposed at
http://main.carlh.net/pipermail/dcpomatic/2016-May/001562.html by means of
SSH local port forwarding.
In this way, the only required modification would be adding a
user-specified port for the encoding server list. Do you have any other
idea? Can this be considered a legit new feature?
Thanks in advance!
Davide Sanvito
Always having the same doubt.
Are the subtitles retimed according to the main content? For example a
23.976 that dom convert to 24, are the separate sound files or the
subtitles also retimed automatically?
I know there are a couple mantis reports related to this, not sure what the
current version does.
Thanks!

Hi all.
Does anyone know if there is a workaround to go outside the fixed
framerates in the dropdown menu and make, say a 120fps DCP?
I'd like to create a test DCP (ahead of 'Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk')
in 120fps 2K 2D.
Thanks :)

Oh dear. It is!
Please ignore me and carry on!

Hi all,
It occurred to me that when specifying KDM time windows we should probably
use time local to the cinema that the KDM is for. That is, if I made KDMs
for cinemas in London and New York, and specified a window of
13:00-16:00, those times would be set so that the London KDM would open at
1pm London time and the New York KDM would open at 1pm New York time.
This would require that the UTC offset for each cinema in the database
was set correctly.
Does this seem like a good idea to those of you making KDMs?
Kind regards,
Carl
Hello,
I love your program! We use it for our local non profit theater and it has
been working great! Our projector has recently stopped liking our pre-show
for some reason when it comes to the 3D shows, so they have suggested
creating a pre-show using a 3D setting, even though the pre-show is not
shown in 3D. When I try this I continue to get the error that is attached
to this message. I'm wondering if I need to use a video file that has been
rendered in 3D? Right now I'm using a wmv video file that is not 3D. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Greetings DCPoMatic mailinglist,
I'm encountering an odd bug(?) during "cluster" encoding with 4
dcpomatic2_cli_server encoding servers and one master. The setup worked
for years without problems till now.
Complicating bug detection is that it works some times and gets stuck
other times. With the same source data!
Some Information about my setup
all using dcpomatic 2.9 (deb)
Running ubuntu 14.04
master (headless) + enc1 (kvm VM)
* amd64 8core 4GHz
* prep is done on different Desktop using
same path structure or with dcpomatic2_create
* dcpomatic2_cli is running with "only Enc Server"
options and there is a
dcpomatic2_server_cli -t 8 or -t14 on the same
VM
(results in much better frames/s when it works
compared to encoding it inside "dcpomatic2_cli"
on the master during cluster encode.
enc2 / enc3 / enc4 all ubuntu 14.04
* 4cores / 4cores / 2cores Hardware machines testing
different thread counts for cli_server with
-t 8 / -t 4 / -t 2
storage
* nfs
* debian 7.x (kvm VM)
All are conected with a hp pro curve 1GB lan
The syslog files on all machines only show normal messages!
The crazy part is that in about 95% of the stuck cases i can encode the
movie with only changing it with running "dcpomatic2_cli -r XXX"
I have included two dcpomatic log files with max debug options ...

Hi all,
I am looking (roughly) at what bugs/features might be fixed/added in
DCP-o-matic 2.10.0. You can see the current plan by going to the bug
tracker "Mantis":
http://dcpomatic.com/mantis
then logging in (if you have an account) or by clicking "Login
anonymously".
Then click "Roadmap" at the top of the page and you will see the
bugs/features that are planned for 2.10.0.
If you want to suggest a bug/feature that should be fixed, find it in the
tracker (or add it yourself, using "Report Issue") and then reply to this
thread and I will see if should be put on the roadmap ;)
Best regards,
Carl
Hi folks,
Is it normal when making a 5.1 DCP that upon playback, all the center channels and dialog can be heard in the left ear (stereo headphones) and I only hear ambience tracks in the right? I don’t remember this being the case in the past but its pretty consistent. I have other way to monitor the DCP after its created other than using Quvis’s DCP player.
Thanks,
John

Hi all,
Unless there are any disasters I will release the current test version (or
something similar) as DCP-o-matic 2.9.0 on Friday 8th July.
If anybody has any bad bugs in 2.9.0 (especially regressions) or any i18n
updates, do get in touch!

Hi,
i exported one of my films and it came out with no audio at all and also
the images were slowed down.
i tried it afterwards with the Sintel Trailer, as suggested in the manual,
but it turned out the same: no audio, slowmo pics.
i tried vlc player and the Mplayer.
i noticed that in the audio-menue in DCP-o-matic it tells me on the left
corner "Audio will not be resampled"
What should i do to make that right???????
Thanks
VLC and mplayer have a bad dcp support, if any.
Try in a real dcp server. Also some software players have a demo mode
allowing a few seconds, enough for a quick test.

Hello friends,
Is it okay to change the name of the DCP folder after it has been created? Sometimes I don’t like the name and want to change it. Upon testing it, it will play in the Quvis simulator, but I have yet to try it on a real system on ingest.
thanks,
JP

Hi DCPomatic,
I am Jax from Singapore. Recently I am preparing a proposal video and
planning to play it in a cinema movie hall, the cinema manager said I have
to convert my video to DCP format.
I did use DCPomatic to convert my AVI video, but after the convertion, what
software I can use to run the video? And when I use Windows Media Player to
play it, there are only video but no sound.
May I know what cause this problem?
Thanks
Best Regards

DCPomatic success at the Senator Theater in Baltimore, MD. Running the simulated 5.1 version of an 85min movie on June 20th. Theater says test was perfect.
In other news, the Landmark Theater chain (Regent) in Los Angeles, can’t play any version of DCP-omatic, or any version of DCP made with Wraptor either. Disappointing. And Landmark is not being any help. I suspect they are ingesting wrong.
Thanks for the platform.

Hi Carl.
Would it be difficult to implement adjustable port numbers for encoding
servers?
What I mean is that encoding servers could listen on a specified port,
rather than being locked to port 6192.
My use case is that we have many machines available for use as encoding
nodes, but they're behind a firewall, and cannot be reached directly by
the DCP-o-matic master. What I'd like to do is connect them to the
master via SSH tunnels, so that remote servers appear as open ports on
localhost. But at present this isn't possible as you can only have a
single server registered on an IP.
As far as I can see, the steps necessary to implement this are:
- 'dcpomatic2_server_cli' accept a command line switch '-port 8765'
- When servers ping the master with a '<ServerAvailable>' message, they
include a '<Port>' attribute if port has been specified.
- dcpomatic master retains port number in its list of available servers
+ utilises it when connecting with 'EncodingRequest' messages
- [possibly] GUI displays ports in 'Encoding Servers' window
- [possibly] Preferences -> Servers dialog allows specifying port for
known servers
I don't know how difficult that is to achieve in practice though.
Are there any instructions anywhere on compiling DCP-o-matic? I'd be
happy to give it a go implementing something like the above, but could
do with some pointers on compiling (ideally on OS X, but I also have a
Linux box if that's easier). I'm no C++ master, but would be happy to
give it a go and contribute to development.
Please let me know what you think...
Many thanks,
Jim

Hello,
just a silly thing I've noticed in 2.7.1 :
in DCP tab when the cursor is in « name » box I can no longer use Del
key to …delete only the BackSpace Key works.
Del Key has no effect.
Ubuntu 14.04 here.

Hi all,
I'm going to push a new version 2.8.0 soon (in the next few days),
based on 2.7.17 or something close to it.
Do let me know if you have any translation updates, or news of any
show-stopping bugs in 2.7.x.
Thanks,
Carl
Hi,
I have an xml error in easydcp player. However the dcp’s created in 2.7.1 are playable in the latest easydcp player and in the most dcp servers. So not the biggest concern.
Attached you’ll find a screenshot of the errors. Just to let you know…
Tom
There has been one report about an encrypted Interop-DCP created by DCP-o-matic not working on a GDC server.
Does anyone deal with encrypted Interops for GDCs and can confirm there is a problem?
Is anyone willing to test this? We would need his server/media block certificate to create a small encrypted SMPTE and Interop Test-DCP, in case you are not familiar with encrypting DCPs and creating KDMs.

I am bringing this up on the list as I may not have understood the issue completely myself, feel free to comment...
I rarely do split video/audio projects, so never came across the issue myself doing real work, but I remember we talked about it from time to time already.
Consider the following situation: Someone wants to create a DCP from content created at 25fps, he creates either a video or image sequence with 25fps, and a split audio file with that timing reference as well.
Now, in DCP-o-matic he want's to create a 24fps version. It is not a problem to instruct DOM to recalculate the video frame rate, stretching the video in absolute length.
But what about the audio timing reference if I do NOT want to process the audio file externally to 24fps? I should be able to tell DCP-o-matic 'use this audio, but resample to a 24fps reference'. Actually I though that was possible using the frame rate input box under 'Content'->'Audio' - but it seems this is not possible. I can input '24' there instead of '25' (as I would with the video), but nothing changes about the audio sample rate?

Dom it's supposed to lowercase the language of burnt-in subtitles, but
I can't figure out when does it.
I tried a few times with subtitles already burnt in the source video
and they are always upper cased.
As I see it, if I add a subtitle language on the ISDCF name dialog and
there is no subtitle track by dom, it could be considered as burnt-in
in the source material. Upper casing only when dom is creating a
track.

Looks as if there is a hard limit of +/- 28% in vertical and horizontal subtitle offset. Is there a hard reason for this (timed text)?
I guess it could be useful to have 'toptitles' instead of subtitles occasionally?
- Carsten
I received a request to make a KDM for multiple screens at a single
location. Is it possible to make just one KDM for all, or do I need to make
separate KDMs for each screen?
Thanks--

I would agree with this - I'm unaware anywhere in the ISDCF of such a limit. In fact, there's a test that places the subtitles in the upper right corner (if that channel is operational), so I would imagine that such a limitation is not necessary.
Additionally, if the subtitles are part of the feature (literally a part of the image), having the ability to place the ones we might want elsewhere might be very beneficial.
Not that I want to do that myself, and do not want to give all accolades to Carl for the work he's doing.
Still, I like your thinking Carsten.
On another note, any of you at CinemaCon this year?

Hmm, weird, I sure do a fair bit of testing in DOM, but completely missed the part where the audio track/stream selection was eliminated and instead all available channels turn up in the audio matrix ;-) I noticed this is already the case in good ol' 1.83...
While I like the idea and option to choose from all available tracks, even mix tracks from different languages, I would prefer to get some help in selecting the intended track from within DOM. Ffprobe does deliver language designations, and while they may not always be there or valid, it would sure be nice if the audio matrix could be enhanced with them? I do like the fact that DOM only chooses and assigns the first stream by default.
I simulated it in the attached PNG, Carl, think about it. Maybe at the same time lines and columns could be given a source/DCP track designation as well? As an experienced user, it is very clear what goes where, but at first, it may be confusing to only see the matrix alone.

Hello,
I have a question about adding 2nd subtitles into an existing DCP.
I received a dcp in OV in French with embedded subtitles in English. I
would like to keep the English subtitles and add Czech subtitles.
This is how I tried to proceed (but it did not work): I created a new
folder, then added files of existing DCP, then I added the new file with
subtitles and place it so that it does not hide the original subtitles.
Then I make the DCP. The problem is that when I play the new DCP the
video is with both subtitles but there is no sound.
Can you help with that?
Thank you!

A little push to http://dcpomatic.com/mantis/view.php?id=747
It would be really helpful. Looks like now if you move any file you
basically lose the ability to reopen your projet.

Hi all.
Is it possible to "re-pack" an existing DCP without re-encoding the video?
I have a couple of DCPs which have problems with the sound so I'd like
to make a new DCP using the existing DCP video MXF and replace just the
audio tracks.
I think this came up before and I thought it was supported in DCPomatic
2. But I tried it in v2.7.1 and couldn't work out how to do it.
Importing the J2K MXF file works fine, but with colour conversion set to
"none", when it came to make the DCP, from the slowness of the process
it appeared that the video was being re-encoded rather than copied.
Did I use the wrong options, or is this not supported in DCP-o-matic at
present?
Any help much appreciated...
Jim
Hi all,
Did anyone receive an email entitled "DCP Dr. Stefan" to the email
address that you use to subscribe to the DCP-o-matic mailing list?
If so, please could you drop me an email off-list.
If you did, I apologise: it appears that the spammer may have joined
the list and then downloaded the list of subscribers. I have now
stopped this from being possible.
Kind regards,
Carl
Hi,
I'm currently trying to compile DoM on ARM CPU - Debian Jessie.
Everything go relatively smooth except for libasdcp-cth dependency which
is needed for libdcp and libsub.
Where can I get this packet?
Thanks,

Use v2.7.1 or v2.7.4, set 20 threads in preferences.
Adding a second CPU to your workstation will double the speed. Or buy a second hand Z600 Dual-6core machine and use as network encode server.

Wow, I had the time to re-run my benchmarks with DCP-o-matic 2.74 and compare against my previous tests - these new code optimizations really pay out.
v1.83 Bunny: 12.3fps (20 threads on master +28 threads on localhost encode server)
v2.74 Bunny: 19.3fps (32threads on master GUI only)
v1.83 Sintel: 9.9fps (20 threads on master +28 threads on localhost encode server)
v2.74 Sintel: 14.6fps (32 threads on master GUI only)
These were done on a dual Xeon-5660 (2*6Core + HT) machine using the standard BigBuckBunny and Sintel benchmark metafile data:
http://dcpomatic.com/benchmarks/
Aside from the J2C code optimizations brought in by Aaron Boxer, Carl also improved the thread handling for machines with many logical cores (e.g. multi CPU/Core Systems). Before, you needed to start a local encode server together with the DCP-o-matic master GUI on the same machine to fully load your CPU during encoding, that penalty grew worse and worse with the number of logical cores.
Now, running only the Master GUI already maxes out the CPU load, and with fewer threads configured in preferences. DCP-o-matic's default thread setting (equals the number of logical cores found in the machine) already comes very close to the optimum. 'Overthreading' (setting more encoding threads than the machine has logical cores) is no longer necessary, or yields very small further improvements.
That also means, on multi-core machines, you get away with fewer threads set, which also means less memory usage (every thread needs a decent amount of memory).
So, now especially with 4k encodes (4k needs even more memory per thread), you don't need as much memory as previously to max out your CPU.
Encoding 4k at +48 threads would bring most machines into swapping, even with lot's of RAM. Now you get the same encoding performance using only half this thread setting, thus needing only half as much RAM (roughly).
On not-so-fast machines, like legacy systems that you might use as encoding servers or for the occasional still conversion, there is improvement as well:
v1.83 Bunny: 0.82fps (4 threads Core2D-T7200)
v2.74 Bunny: 1.15fps (4 threads Core2D-T7200)
That's approaching a 40% speed increase from the last 1.x release.
Well done Carl and Aaron!

I noticed v2.72 establishes timezones in the cinema database.
Please check your cinema database, as per default it seems that DCP-o-matic will update all cinema entries with UTC as default. That could bring trouble if you are already creating KDMs within a time zone with a large offset from UTC. So go through them one by one and get them right.
Carl - I expected the time window in the KDM creation dialog to change per local UTC offset variation when I select a screen within a cinema with different UTC offset. I know it is not a must, of course.
But maybe it would be helpful to indicate the UTC offset when selecting a specific screen?
Hmm, I just noticed it is possible to create multiple KDMs at once by selecting multiple screens simultaneously, so that wouldn't work, as there can be multiple different time zones involved...
Well I DO know it is not a good idea to create KDMs with very short time windows anyway, still it is now becoming a bit complicated to actually know what actual time frame is created because the offset is 'hidden' in the database.
Hmm, maybe you can display the UTC offset after the cinema name in the list? Selecting a specific screen would always make the UTC offset visible because of the list expanding necessary to select that screen.
For clarification, I extended the german translation of 'Timing' in the KDM dialog to 'Time window (local time of THIS machine!)' a while ago.
I assume this is still valid (but not exclusively now)...and what the time zones now do is to adjust the displayed time window to the UTC adjusted remote locations?
That is, if I choose a time frame of 03/14/2016 12:00 to 03/17/2016 12:00 there, and create a KDM for a cinema with an UTC offset of +11, it WILL result in exactly that time frame of 03/14/2016 12:00 to 03/17/2016 12:00 AT that specified location?
Seems I need to adjust OR extend that translation again ;-)
Well, whatever, I just played around with it and adjusted some known cinemas with fictional UTC offsets (+11 and +2) and created two KDMs simultaneously.
The indicated time frame of: 03/14/2016 12:00 to 03/17/2016 12:00 resulted in the following KDM details to be created:
<ContentKeysNotValidBefore>2016-03-14T12:00:00+11:00</ContentKeysNotValidBefore><ContentKeysNotValidAfter>2016-03-17T12:00:00+11:00<
<ContentKeysNotValidBefore>2016-03-14T12:00:00+02:00</ContentKeysNotValidBefore><ContentKeysNotValidAfter>2016-03-17T12:00:00+02:00<
When I check my database of KDMs we received over the years, there is a wild mix of time frames given either with UTC-offset=zero and absolute time adjusted, or with UTC offset. So it seems both methods are used and both work.
When I send these KDMs as email, the time window is expressed as local time in the email text, so that is also what the local recipient expect, as he will always refer to these time frames in local time:
'Der Schluessel ist vom 2016-03-14 12:00:00 bis zum 2016-03-17 12:00:00 gueltig fuer:'

Hi,
A problem that I have run into a few times:
I can't find a convenient way to remove the black bars from letterboxed
content with non-square pixels and non standard aspect ratio.
An example:
Content with letterbox (62 pixels top and bottom) is 720x576 and has a
pixel aspect ratio of 1.42:1
Display aspect ratio is 1.78:1 (16:9), so the displayed image is
1024*576 including the letterbox and 1024*452 with the letterbox
removed. This gives a aspect ratio of 2.27:1 which to my knowledge does
not fit any of the predefined containers.
- With "Scale to" set to 16:9 the picture is not distorted but shown
with letterbox and not filling the container.
- Cropping top and bottom bar distorts the image because the display
aspect ratio is fixed and not the pixel aspect ratio.
- Changing "Scale to" to "no stretch" distorts the image because the
pixels are displayed square (which they really are not).
So what I need is a "Scale to" option that keep the pixel aspect ratio
fixed to whatever is reported with ffprobe (specified in the video
header?) - That way I can crop the image without distorting it.
Have I overlooked an obvious way to make the useful part of the image
fit the height of the container without distortion?
The example content is available here:

Okay, got a first grip on subtitles, was never able to do much testing on this, but after teaching myself the simple Subrip format, I am able now to create test files for various issues.
Now, the 'Show' Option under the Subtitle tab opens a nice list of the titles. I'm wondering wether it would be too much work to actually transform this table display into a basic editor? All one needs would be to create/delete/edit entries in start/stop/content columns, nothing fancy...
I know most people will prefer external 'real' Subtitle editors for doing substantial subtitle work, but having a simple editor to clean up glitches or create individual titles would still be nice, no?

Yes, that's all a bit clumsy. If you make a KDM later you have to open
the original project as the key for the MXFs is stored in the
metadata.xml.
Your approach is better in a lot of ways (in particular, the CPL
details and keys are kept in one place), but it depends on the
DCP-o-matic certificate/private key not changing. If you recreate
those keys your DKDMs will no longer work and your DCP will be lost (as
you won't have the key to decrypt it).
Regards,
Carl
Hmm, when I create an encrypted DCP, and afterwards 'Make DKDM for DCP-o-matic' - I get a dialog with the current CPL data (or browse for it) - I can click 'OK' - but where can I find that DKDM then? There is no option to set a save location for the DKDM?! At least not on my Mac...
- Carsten
Saw a message on the forum about this. To my knowledge there is not support yet.
If that's the case, I will try to prepare some test materiel and
search the marking needed or other specificities to make it work.
Thanks!

Hi,
Would it be possible and make sense to add an option to the DCP tab
called somethin like "Upload to TMS", that if checked would make DOM
upload the DCP to the TMS after successful completion?
It would be nice if this feature also worked when doing batch conversions.
Cheers,
Christian
Has anyone been successful in creating encrypted IOP or SMPTE DCPs for a Barco Alchemy ICMP? I have tried with 2.6.16, both in IOP and SMPTE format, SMPTE with Modified Transitional 1 and DCI specific.
DCP and KDM is ingested successfully, and the interface shows them associated, the key validity window is displayed, properties shows 'valid' 'no errors'. I can load the clip into the player, but when I hit 'Play', nothing appears, the player claims it is playing, but silently goes to stop after 5s - this is the same for every variant I tried.
I can play commercial unencrypted and unencrypted DCP-o-matic content without a problem. I also tried one time with 1.81, same result. We have not yet registered the certificate with a distributor or mastering service, so we have never received a commercial encrypted feature + KDM. Actually I was just trying to create a successful enrcypted DCP and KDM to test wether the certificate is working.
Any idea?
I have tried with both certificate downloaded from Barco database, as well as from the ICMP itself using Communicator.

Hi all,
DoM 2.6.32:
http://dcpomatic.com/test-download
is a release candidate for 2.7.0, within the next couple of days if all is
well. Do let me know if you see any problems with this version, or have
any last-minute translation updates.

Hi,
I have manage to convert 1 of the file to J2K format successfully. But i
need your guidance how to convert the 30second file in to the MPEG2D
(E-Cinema) format.
Kindly advice

It seems the reason for this issue has been a flaw in the ICMP. Barco issued a new software service release a few days ago with the documentation listing exactly the error I was getting in the syslog:
Does anyone know what 'frame HMACs' are?
I have yet to install this software and test it with a DOM DCP, but I do assume it will be fixed with it.

Still trying to get a grip on our Barco certificate issue.
What I don't understand is - there seem to be certificate/pem files with one, or multiple certificate blocks in them (multiple '-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----' '-----END CERTIFICATE-----' blocks).
Sometimes when I request a certificate, I get a single .pem file, sometimes I get multiple files. I understand there are separate certificates for J2K and MPEG-2, and also certificates that include the root chain or not.
E.g. when I download my ICMP certificate from the ICMP itself, I get an 8KB BARCO-ICMP-9730000916.pem.
When I request it from Barco, I get a ZIP file with two files:
Barco-ICMP.9730000916_cert.pem 4kB
Barco-ICMP.9730000916_chain.pem 8kB
Which of the two are actually needed for KDM creation? DOM seems to accept both - but when I create encrypted DCPs, neither works.
The two 8kB files are bit-identical.
I received a Doremi certificate file that I used sucessfully with DOM to create and play an encrypted DCP - but that file only contained a single certificate block. How can it be those certificate files are so different?
For this Doremi server, the Doremi FTP site delivers a ZIP with SIX certificate files:
dcp2000-254124.cert.mpeg.pem - 4kB
dcp2000-254124.cert.sha256.pem - 4kB
dcp2000-254124.cert.sms.pem - 4kB
dcp2000-254124.chain.mpeg.pem - 12kB
dcp2000-254124.chain.sha256.pem - 12kB
dcp2000-254124.chain.sms.pem - 12kB
I would think that the mpeg.pem is for MPEG2-Interop KDMs, sha256.pem is for J2C-SMPTE-KDMs, and that sms.pem is for verifying signed log files from the server?
I understand that chains will not only contain the device certificate itself, but also it's parent-certificate, in the case of the Barco ICMP e.g. leading the device cetificate back to Barco. As such, I would assume that for KDM creation, a software would be able to work with both types of files? How will a software know which is which, when the number of certificate blocks differ between devices?

Hi all,
Has somebody any experience with loudness audio normalisation?
I personally use it in case of BD / DVD authoring to normalise all the
sounds.
It seems to be the most recent for broadcasting, as the mean audio level
does not analyse the audio frequency spectrum.
Loudness seems to be the closest to the human response.
ffmpeg has this filter: (https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#ebur128-1)
ffmpeg -nostats -i input -filter_complex ebur128 -f null -
"I" gives the value of the integrated loudness. The optimal value for
broadcasting seems to be -23 LUFS.
This filter does not give any indication of the peak, so the classic
analyse would be necessary to avoid saturation.
Anyone thinks that this analyse could be useful for DoM?
Lilian
Recently an Indie film has been distributed to german cinemas which seems to mix Interop and SMPTE packaging. This is, of course, forbidden, but I think DOM currently doesn't block this approach. I guess that currently it is possible to refer to an SMPTE wrapped MXF from within an Interop VF or vice versa.
I guess DOM should look at the MXF headers and/or Metadata and at least issue a warning immediately and demands to adjust the DCP type.

Hi,
I have received an error report of a dcp made with DoM 2.6.3 on Windows.
The report came from the easyDCP player software.
There seems to be something wrong with the subtitle track.
Does anyone had something like this before?
Attached you’ll find the report.
All the best,
Tom

Not sure if DOM already respects this, but if really some systems
counts the underscores, may be worth a look. It's from the ISDCF list.
"There MUST be an entry in EVERY field. Some systems count the
number of "_" (underscores) to parse the information (NOT
RECOMMENDED - BUT it's done). If you have a non- relevant field,
fill it with the letters "NULL"
This may explain all the naming errors we get from dcp_inspect that
are not really errors.
