Hi all,
I compared the font size in a movie in DCPomatic Player to the same section
in another player (Neo-DCP) and noticed that they were not the same. I did
this test because in DCPomatic the subtitles of a Scope aspect ratio movie
were spilling outside of the image area. So I compared it in the other
player and the font size and position were much different and didn't fall
outside of the Scope image in the other player.
I was wondering if the specs for subtitles playback come from the xml in
the VF folder Dcpomatic Player?
Here are the specs for the subs on the DCP mentioned above:
" Font Color="FFFFFFFF" Weight="normal" Size="44" Effect="border"
EffectColor="FF000000" AspectAdjust="1.00"> "
Thanks so much!
Joaquin
Hi all,
I'm noticing that if there are multiple VF's on a DCP that there isn't a
way to choose which VF you want to watch. For instance as in the case I'm
looking at now, there is a Dutch language OV with a French subtitle VF and
an English subtitle VF but DCP-o-matic will only show the French sub
VF...but when I look at it on the server both VF's appear.
Another player that I sometimes use, Neo-DCP Player accomplishes this by
referring to the asset map which lists the various VF versions and allows
you to choose between them.
Is this something that might be possible in DCP-o-matic Player? That would
be great if so!
Thanks so much!
Joaquin
Hi newbie to Player here. I have been happily using Player in mac but I'm
working in Ubuntu 16.04 now and there is no download available...but I
heard you can build and launch Player from Terminal in Ubuntu. Any advice
on this?
Thanks!
Joaquin
Sir,
We are interested in installing DCP-o-matic on our machines in the lab in our department. Ideally, we would install it on at least 15 of the machines here. Is there a sort of site license that we could obtain for that? I understand that it’s technically freeware for individual users, I just thought I’d check to see if there was an institutional rate for your program.

Hi!
I recently used DCP o matic on a short film. We tested the movie on the theater and for some reason it plays and sound in slow motion. Can you offer some information on this issue?
The projector was a DP2k 20C Texas Instrument DLP cinema

The paragraph directly below the one I sent you last time says this:
"Finally, as with video, you can choose Make DCP from the Jobs menu to
create your DCP. This will be much quicker than creating a DCP from a
video file, as DCP-o-matic only needs to encode a single frame which it
can then repeat. "
So: choose Make DCP and it will make your DCP.

Hi all,
Apologies for the spam that just made it onto the DCP-o-matic mailing
list.
This was due to a mistake on my part: my ISP has recently changed their
email server and I made some exim configuration changes to fix some
problems. These changes had the unintended consequence of bypassing
mailman's checks.
I have reported the mail to spamcop and fixed the exim configuration so it
should not happen again.
Sorry,
Carl

Hi all,
2.11.77 is now available from here:
https://dcpomatic.com/test-download
and barring disasters this will be the release version 2.12.0. Any
last-minute testing would be welcome. The OS X version has had a bit of
"adjustment" in the last few days to get it past Gatekeeper so that in
particular needs a work-out!
Thank you,
Carl
Hi Carl and all.
I've just had a DCP rejected at QC by Motion Picture Solutions.
The film is being distributed by a major studio (though it's a one-day
release, so not as big a deal as that sounds, it's really not big
budget). Foolish of me to get involved - I knew they'd run the DCP
through a QC process which was going to be incredibly tight, and I did
fear a fail based on something nitpicky. And so it is. Damn me for just
trying to help out!
There's a wider issue about how it might advantage market leaders to
ensure that DCPs created with "unprofessional" tools like DCP-o-matic
are branded as "faulty". But that's a rant for another day!
Anyway, below are the details I've been given so far. Of course, if any
chance of a swift fix, that'd be great. But more importantly I hope this
may be an opportunity to harden DCP-o-matic and get it one step closer
to being viewed on the same level as the big boys.
Here's the info:
DCP made using DCP-o-matic 2.10.5 on Mac OS 10.12.6. 2K Flat, Interop,
24fps, 20 minute reels. Made from ProResHQ 1080p 25fps.
The DCP is encrypted. Signing and encryption keys are the ones DCPoM
made automatically.
The reason given by MPS for QC fail is:
/"The cpl has been incorrectly signed - UTF8 rather than ASN.1//
//
//The following flag occurred on ingest: Hashed OK, but with flags such
as these in Wailua://
//
//crt=mp+ROXiXhhwYBtsBVkeaURJZD5s=;String encoding of Issuer O is not
ASN.1 PRINTABLESTRING: "UTF8STRING"//
//
//Now, whilst not a major issue – I wanted to flag it with you. It will
play on most systems but there is a chance it may not on some
players/servers.//"/
I've asked for the full Wailua output. Will post it here if I get it.
Here is a link to the DCP-o-matic project folder + DCP (MXF files
removed for size): https://fil.email/VUGNrpkk
I've redacted the encryption key in metadata.xml and file paths in the
DCPoM log files. The title of the film is not redacted but I would ask
if everyone could please avoid mentioning it on the mailing list. I
don't want to cause anyone embarrassment.
Has anyone come up against this before?
Many thanks,
Jim
Hi all,
The stable release of DCP-o-matic is now in beta test; available from
here:
https://dcpomatic.com/test-download
I'm hoping to release within a week or two, providing nothing nasty comes
up. Please test any way you can and report bugs here, on Mantis or
directly to me.
Translation updates are still welcome of course!
All the best,
Carl
Anytime I try to put something onto DCP-o-matic it says "error could not
open" Just wondering if I am doing something wrong?
Thanks,

Hi all,
Barring exceptional circumstances, DCP-o-matic is now in "string freeze"
for the 2.12.0 release. That means that no more translatable strings will
be added or changed. If you have the means to help with DCP-o-matic's
translations, now would be an excellent time to pitch in!
Full details of the translation process are here:
http://www.dcpomatic.com/i18n
Do not hesitate to ask me or the list if you have any problems.
Kind regards,
Carl
Hello,
Not that I really use that distribution, but on Ubuntu 17.10 when trying
to launch DOM-server I get :
> ASSERT INFO:
> ../src/gtk/bitmap.cpp(1329): assert "IsOk()" failed in GetPixbuf():
> invalid bitmap
>
> BACKTRACE:
> [1] wxBitmap::GetPixbuf() const
> [2] wxTaskBarIcon::Private::SetIcon()
> [3] wxTaskBarIcon::SetIcon(wxIcon const&, wxString const&)
> [4] wxEntry(int&, wchar_t**)
> [5] __libc_start_main
>
>
…something related with the way Ubuntu 17.10 handles - or does not
handle - tray icons ?
It's DOM 2.11.42 git 3b70dc77fb
Might be of any interest for later LTS Ubuntu version…
Best regards,
Gérald.
What a ride...

Hello,
I’m trying to snap an audio file into a video file making a DCP, but whenever I batch the files to get the DCP, I only get the audio file
Can someone please advise.
There is a compute thread setting in DOM that is used for J2K encoding.
In think one of the more recent code improvements was to do J2K DECODING while playing DCPs multithreaded as well. While I appreciate that I have 0 dropped frames in the player at 1/4 res, I notice that my 4core/HT MacBook only uses 4 threads while playing.
And even these are only loaded 50%. I am nearly sure this machine could do at least 1/2 res decoding, without dropped frames, if not full res.
Is there a way to improve this? How does the stand alone player decide how many threads to use? Or is OS X doing the thread distribution?
Wouldn't it be useful if DOM (main app) would use 1/4res when playing DCPs in preview as well, and per default? The preview window is probably not much larger in most working environments anyway.

Hi all,
We currently use DCP-o-matic 2 for creation, however, does anybody know if it's possible to ingest a DCP received from a third party so we can convert to a broadcast format such as ProRes?

Hi Carl,
when would one want to change this setting? I have seen this coming up on the development status sidebar on the website a while ago, but thought it would only turn up in the prefs or metadata.xml to be changed manually, not within the prefs/GUI. Now I saw this in advanced prefs in 2.11.27

2.11.24 looks good with Dolby TrueHD streams, also 7.1. Although it starts recalculating the audio when I switch from 5.1 to 7.1 (12ch) DCP to see the BSL/BSR channels. Maybe it's better to include all available audio channels in the input file for analysis right from the start? Or maybe DOM does that already, but is false triggered towards a new analysis if the DCP audio arrangement is changed? No big deal for short pieces, but for full length features, it is annoying if another 20min analysis run is started, especially since R128 proves to be very useful now and I would advise everyone to do perform the full audio analysis.
It also appears as if calculating audio is now a lot faster than before (2.11.22) - at least for the 7.1 THD full length feature, it now only takes around 13min, compared to around 45min for the 5.1 ac3 version yesterday. Yes, the 5.1 ac3 analysis also computes much faster now with .24 - a mere 6min!
I notice that the more audio streams in the input file, the longer it takes - probably approx. the same time for each stream, or every single audio channel adds up. So it is certainly wise to only include the necessary streams in the MKV, or to extract unnecessary streams before with an MKV splitter.
While I understand it's busy at DOM-HQ, may I hint again at:
http://dcpomatic.com/mantis/view.php?id=835
because it is probably very easy to implement coloring the graph legend ;-)

Dear Carl,
I have downloaded software from https://dcpomatic.com/ . I don't know how
to convert the attached image files into dcp format using your software.
Could you please help me on this?
I look forward to hearing from you soon on this.
