Was wondering if it was possible to build a DIY open sources LMS.
Also not entirely sure exactly what a LMS is/how it works, anyone got any
good links to an overview/primer.
Hope people don't mind me posting this here, it is for use with a DCP
server and my googeling keeps on returning info about Learning Management
Systems;(.
Probably best to reply off list.
Ben

If you are a freelancer FreeAgent is a great system to do your accounts, if
you use http://www.freeagent.com/?referrer=42j4d743 (referal code is
42j4d743) you get 10% off each month.

If you only want a very basic LMS (Library) just install an ftp server
(filezilla), some people use a network disk with ftp access. You will
be able to see it as an ingest server from your projection servers.
If you are talking about a TMS (Theater Management System),
automatically creating playlists, schedule, etc. that's another
history, and I can be interested. I have been considering starting my
own, as I couldn't find enough information about the available options
out there.

The problem is, you need to obtain internal information on the server/projector APIs. Usually under NDA, and they probably will not necessarily grant everyone access to these.
There is free version of the Cin?Digital Manager TMS - limited to two screens.
It's the same TMS that Kinoton uses/sells.

Well, was not so hard to find out that the doremi schedule database is
an SQLite. Just in case they don't want to give me API access, I was
considering modifying it directly, what can go wrong? :D
I will be interested in an open source one so it can be adapted to
alternative content and other fancy stuff at art houses, and specially
for festival requirements.
Thanks for the link!
