The Desktop PC that we use to run DCP-o-matic just died (smoke started pouring out of it actually) does anyone have recommendations on PC specifications, or a make/model that they've had good luck with?

What type of  CPU did your existing PC contain?

How much roughly are you planing to spend?

I would love to see some results of the new AMD Ryzen CPUs. If anyone reading this is already using a Ryzen machine, please perform the ‚official‘ benchmarks with the latest stable release (2.10.5) and post the results (log files to Carl).

In general, the more hardware threads (cores*HT), the better.

Usually, DCP-o-matic results scale neatly with CPU passmark:

I usually recommend a second hand dual CPU xeon machine (e.g. HP z600/z620 with dual six core 5660/5670/5675). Great price (from 500-600US$ up for a working system), very solid, easy to get on ebay.

Dual CPU/many cores gives you the most bang for the buck. These machines may not be the fastest for gaming or single threaded applications, but DOM runs very efficient on them.
