I suspect the issue might be how the Sony box handles KeyType’s scope value in the
KDM-for-SMPTE-composition case. See ST:430-1 section 5.2.8.2 TypedKeyId.
I believe the mentioned KDM authoring systems are correct wrt KeyType’s scope. In other
words: explicit mentioning in the XML document is not necessary because attribute and
value are defined and set in the related schema:
<xs:attribute name="scope" type="xs:anyURI" use=“optional"
/>
The related language in ST:430-1 – while it seems ambiguous to the cursory glance – is
ultimately quite clear:
The KeyType element shall have an optional “scope” attribute, which shall be a URI value
identifying the normative reference which defines the four character key type identifier
contained within the element. The default value of the scope attribute shall be the URI
value “http://www.smpte-ra.org/430-1/2006/KDM#kdm- key-type”. (ST:430-1 5.2.8.2)
To the best of my knowledge: Insisting on the value in the KDM XML document would be a bug
in the playback system.

Carsten Kurz via DCPomatic:
Okay, I tried a KDM created by KDM-Studio, and it
didn’t work. Same
result as with the KDMs created by DCP-o-matic directly.
I don’t create KDMs too often, so I had to rethink the whole process,
here is what I did:
I had created the SONY as a screen in KDM Studio before.
For the same DCP-o-matic project I created SMPTE KDMs for, I created
a DKDM using the certificate KDM-Studio provides. No complaints. I
created a new screen in DCP-o-matic using this certificate, and
created a KDM (DKDM) for it. I created a new production and booking
in KDM Studio with this DKDM. I made sure all the windows fit.
Then issued KDMs, received them via email (see below), and ingested
them on the Sony. Ingested the feature on the Sony. KDM was shown
attached to the feature as in all my previous Sony tests. Tried to
play - got the same result…
I will now try to replicate this same process with IOP.
OK, most interesting. Pending confirmation that the same process works with IOP, this
would imply that Easy DCP Creator (as I believe
dcptools.com is using) has the same
problems that DoM has with creating KDMs for SMPTE DCPs on Sonys.
Cheers,
Carl
