Marcus – nice summary. I opened DCP-O-Matic and followed along and made a couple notes (marked with*).

(very) short HowTo  (without the option of having a running dcpomatic at
hand ;)

1. Start DCP-O-Matic
2. Open 'Preferences', then the 'Defaults' tab
There shpould be a option for default display time for still
images. I think the default is 10 seconds. If you want to have more
or less display time per image change this in the prefs.
*3. Close DCP-O-matic
*4. Restart DCPomatic (needs to be done to read the prefs correctly
  again)

*I just tried this without quit/restart and restarting doesn’t seem to be required.

5. Create New Project
*In the Mac version, Open New, which presents the “New Film” window.
Keep Project Name Short but still explanatory. After Around 12 to 15
Chars the Name will be cut of and spaces will be filtered  from the
       restulitng DCP Base Name!

*Import your materials by clicking “Add File(s)” in the “Content” Tab

*Select “DCP” Tab

6. Select the desired Container Type (Flat or Scope) As your Images seem
to be  "Wide" pictures scope might be a good option. Or make both
types giving you projection crew more options during playlist
  creation

7. Select a type for the stuff you are doing ... SHR, FTR, ADV, PSA ...

8. Let dcp-o-matic create the dcp
*On the Mac version, pull down “Jobs” to “Make DCP"

*This will create a directory (a folder) that has several files and directories. The actual DCP is the directory beginning with the name that you created and which holds the:
ASSETMAP
cpl_
j2c_
pcm_
pkl
VOLINDEX

This directory and its contents are what you need to put onto a correctly formatted USB stick – EXT2 or EXT3, inode size 128 bytes
These linux format settings are not standard settings for any OS. Easiest short term solution is to use a stick that has a different trailer on it and copy your file to that.

9. If you still have problems please read the very good html document from
Carl on the webpage. If you still have problems after reading my very
very short list above and also the docs i will would help you with
questions might still have...
