What's wrong with ExFAT? At least in theory it
looked like a solution to copying files between different operating systems.
That IS the problem - people seem to think that ExFAT is the better cross-platform
solution that NTFS - and so ExFAT drives show up at cinemas to be ingested into DCI
servers.
When doing large file transfers from Macs, I would opt to use a virtual machine or boot
linux. This will also allow to format the drives to specs (MBR, ext2, inodesize 128). I
boot my MacBook into GPARTED from a small USB stick to do some jobs.
I hate to say that, but when transfering from windows machines, I'd use NTFS. You may
run into problems with some very few servers, but in most cases, it is the fastest and
safest and easiest way.
NTFS works from a Mac as well, but it's dead slow for large DCPs.
A networked Linux machine would be a nice solution as well, as clients wouldn't need
to know about the file-system they are copying to. And it could serve multiple machines.
It is of course somewhat slower than SATA or (good) USB3 transfers.
