You can. Make sure that NTFS drive uses an MBR partition scheme. I prefer Tuxera NTFS driver for the Mac. It will also allow to format drives with NTFS using the standard Mac disk utility. There is an option to choose MBR vs. GUID/GPT partition scheme when initialising the disc. Make sure you select MBR. No drives larger 2TB.
