Yes it can. The issue is that currently Carl does not provide an 'encode server'
app that you can simply start by mouse or assign autostart properties as in windows.
You have to start terminal app in 'Utilities' and start DCP-o-matic encode server
in CLI-mode. Which is not really complicated, just type/copy:
cd /Applications/DCP-o-matic.app/Contents/MacOS
./dcpomatic_server_cli
I haven't tried it, but I think if you use at least similiar versions, you can even
have mixed OS render nodes.
