Fake 5.1 is really cool, and more important than people think (at
least the 2.1) I promise to do some more detailed testing for it.
Real DCP subtitles from srt are the best of gifts for many of us.
Carl, during our conversation I told you about the idea of a FAT32
friendly multireel support (reels smaller than 4gb). That can be a
game changer for casual users. Many of our clients at akaDCP only need
a proper linux copy, and at festivals we keep receiving all kind of
randomly formatted disks.
It's on the list ... :)
After the discussions of how to show some new advanced
features, I
will insist in my proposition of defaulting dcpomatic to a wizard
mode, perfect for beginners, with all the beloved options and features
available a click away. Dcpomatic is already scaringly good at
guessing the right options and even names by itself.
It's an interesting suggestion. I guess the advantage of a wizard is
to force the user to think about or set an option that they might
otherwise leave as the default. I wonder how many of DCP-o-matic's
options really need that treatment.
Casual users are pretty hesitant about the whole DCP
thing, so they
will stay far from a public v.2 marked as beta and for experts only,
or something similar. And the hard users will fell more comfortable
knowing that v.2 is in active development and ready to use/test.
Yes, I am hopeful that we can get enough testing with a 2.0 version
marked "be careful".

Carl
