I hope the default standard can be predefined in the
preferences, that
will save many people the extra click. I hope this change doesn't mean
SMPTE features will be forgotten in the future of DoM.
Yes, the default standard can be predefined, and I'm still just as keen to
make SMPTE DCPs work where they should.

We do festivals and subtitles and slideshows and many other things
that are not a movie for a major. I firmly believe that SMPTE gives
DoM more and better options to make its magic happen.

OK, interesting! I'm about to embark on
making all the DCPs for 3 UK festivals. Have always used SMPTE in the past and found it
rock solid, so nervous about switching, but it sounds like Interop is a better choice.
Can anyone vouch for DCP-o-matic's stability and correctness when creating Interop
DCPs on OS X (Yosemite)?
I haven't seen real issues for INTEROP vs. SMPTE, so, if you have a proven workflow,
I don't really see a reason to switch. It's not that SMPTE is broken. It's
more of a formal issue. After all, the cinema industry is struggling for years to move to
SMPTE, so, I am not surprised we see some issues in the DOM community as well.
It's just that I wouldn't follow the recommendation to always create SMPTE
because 'it's the new format and INTEROP is outdated'.
Maybe also some misunderstanding came up because of the former 'MPEG2-Interop'
DCPs. Some people somehow seem to have shortened this to 'INTEROP'. However,
MPEG2-Interop REALLY is deprecated. But NOT J2K-Interop.
Give 2.9 a try. It has lot's of interesting features, I haven't experienced the
Mac versions to be exceptionally unstable. There may always be a glitch or so with a new
test version, but in general, these are only up for a few days before Carl fixes them.
