Any further thoughts on what likely cause is? It's *possible* that the image sequence
I've been given is wrongly coloured, and that's the problem, but it's from a
very reputable post house so more likely I suspect more likely that the fault is mine :)
BTW - I usually recommend not to order any ‚preconverted‘ intermediate directly targeted
at DCP conversion. I understand some people may feel that color transform is a complicated
art and thus want to have this done by ‚qualified professional people‘ instead leaving it
to ‚free software‘. However, DCP/DCI is a very closed environment, as is XYZ/2.6. So it’s
better to do all the conversion within the step for DCP creation, and only request
intermediates that are usable universally, e.g. RGB-TIFF, dpx, etc.
Without proper explanation what they did, these XYZs are unusable, even if you try to fix
them visually, you can never be sure if you really got it right, as the transform has
multiple parameters. And feeling unsafe is not worth the money you probably spent there.
Yes, in principle of course you can trust a reputable post house, but then, communication
about a specific color conversion can be complicated (is the gamma conversion applied as
well?), and wether it’s an error on their side or a misunderstanding...
So, either order the full DCP from the post house, or, have them provide assets that are
in generic form, so you can use them for multiple purposes, and so that DOM has a well
defined point of departure. Yes, in theory, TIFF/XYZ could be as common and well defined
as TIFF, but in practice...
