Well, all the glyphs seems correct both in my text editor and subtitle
editor.
When I
import the chinese SRT file into DOM, the preview seems to show correct chinese.
DOM seems to use a generic font for the display.
As far as I understand, all the subtitles
(including the working greek and russian versions) have been created with Jubler.
Opening the SRT file in Jubler also displays chinese 'chars'.
The IOP DCP created from these files contains an XML file (which again, when opened with
an XML editor, shows proper chinese) and references a font
'LiberationSans-Regular.ttf', which is included.
LiberationSans can not
render Chinese glyphs, but it renders Greek and Russian ones, as you can see in the
pictures I join.
You should find a font able to render Chinese characters and check with dcp_inspect if
all the glyphs are present.
Or maybe if no font is declared, the server would render the characters correctly, but I
don't think it's a good solution...
I don't think one should be too picky about the font style anyway, especially when
you want to create a lot of different language versions. There should be a font
recommendation that solves 'most needs'.
Wondering wether we could work on a font recommendation for specific languages. e.G. in
the forum the topic of RightToLeft fonts just came up (e.g. hebrew), and put this
recommendation on the DCP-o-matic page.
I don't know how would DOM manage image
based subtitles.
Personally I only use PNG files, because I'm sure of the rendering!
For me it's the way to go for subtitling.
