Leslie,
Thanks for this, I am doing -13.3 (was what the fader calculator gave me) .  I was playing at 3.5 and want 5.  Sounds like -15 may be a good starting point in future for stuff mixed at -0db.

Tom,
absolutely.  They have confirmed Rec.709, I am trying to get the gamma from them.

Carsten,
Yes it was -1db, I was going to max of -12db tand this seemed correct but I think I miinterpreted something.

Thanks for everyone help, you lot rock;).

To add to Carsten's statement‎, I would also receive the popping on some of the content that I'd convert until I attenuated the audio about 12 to 18dB. I suspect you will have similar results.

I think the best way to fix the audio issue is no to just try different settings, but to analyse the sound that has been converted into the DCP. Unfortunately, 30min of 5.1 is a bit too much to upload anywhere. One would unwrap the audio to a multichannel wave file, load it into an editor and then check levels and possible pops/clipping.

If the source files was mastered to full range, I assume -12 to -18db would have been a useful setting, but that depends on the content. Documentary is very different from feature movie sound.

Did you actually use -1dB as you wrote or is that a typo? Because that sure is not enough attentuation.

- Carsten
