Hi Evan,
There's quite a long discussion of this topic on our forum here:

There's a few suggestions in there to help you use EXT2 (which, if done
right, works everywhere) and NTFS (which is seemingly easier from Mac OS
but not guaranteed to work everywhere).
One of these days I will put the highlights of this advice on the
DCP-o-matic web page.
