Hi all,
I have a user who is reporting that he has a content file graded to Rec.
709, which he is converting to DCP using DCP-o-matic's Rec. 709 preset.
He reports that on a projector he sees pinker skin tones, and the entire
image seems a little desaturated.
He also tests on Easy DCP player and gets the following results with its
various colour conversions:
XYZ to RGB (P3): exactly as seen in the cinema (pinker skin tones,
desaturated)
XYZ to RGB (Rec 709): looks as it should
I'm a bit confused... does anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Well, what can we say, we don't know wether these are small issues with the color
conversion matrix in DCP-o-matic, or if the display he or others are using for the grading
or the verification are accurately calibrated and if the software is configured properly.
'Pinker Skin tones' and 'entire image seems a little desaturated'
doesn't fit together, in my opinion. If it's desaturated in general, skin tones
should not become pinker at the same time.
Talking about color is like dancing about architecture.
