When I try to add an MP3 file to a project, I get an error:
'Error (could not find video stream)'
Seems that the 'MP3' extension or the file header makes DCP-o-matic think it is a
videofile?

Hi Carsten
There is no support for MP3 at present... libsndfile does not
handle it because of licensing concerns.
