Hi. I have a DCP I made last week, but I need to replace the audio. Is
there a relatively fast way to replace the audio without starting over from
scratch?
I just tried making a new DCP and adding the original picture MXF as the
source, and this works, but was giving me a frame rate of 1.8 f/s on making
the new DCP. That would be about a 24 hour process and it would probably be
faster to just start over.

Well, if you kept the original project file/folder/metadata, it is easy to replace just
the audio. If you deleted everything after you created the DCP, no other chance than to
start from scratch. That means, another J2C compression run.
You could import or reference your existing DCP, as you tried, but with a regular import,
DOM will have to decompress and recompress the image track all over, and with the
reference DCP option, you can not just change the sound track, I think.

Thanks for the info! I do have the original project file/etc. I'm waiting
on the audio so I have not yet tested. So you are suggesting if I open the
original project, I should be able to replace the audio and make a new DCP
without having to recompress the picture files, correct?

Somehow a question/feature that was in my list.
When importing a DCP or MXF, give the option to reuse it without
recompression. I would do that kind of thing manually editing the CPL
and other metafiles, and for short films just easier to redo
everything.
And now that I understand that DOM is decompressing the image, how
about adding the feature of converting DCP in MP4/Prores?
Remastering, inverse compression, promising KDM tools,... this thing
have become a little monster, far from that innocent looking
DVD-o-matic that started it all. THANKS.

Actually it can be done easily with FFMPEG
ffmpeg -i j2c.mxf -i pcm.mxf -vcodec prores -acodec pcm_s16le output.mov
(actually, this doesn't convert DCP/CPL, but only the MXF files, so, if there is no
1:1 relation between CPL playlist and MXF track, it will cause discontinuities. But it
works pretty good)

As others have said, I don't think it fits with DCP-o-matic's UI. Patches
to Handbrake or something similar would make more sense, I think...

Thanks. I just got the audio and it worked as expected!
One question, the new audio came in one frame too short. I always aim to
have both elements match exactly.
If I adjust the audio's play length to match the picture's length, it
inserts a "-1" frame in the Trim from end section.
Is this going to be a problem? Will it add a frame of silence at the end?
I was nervous about removing a frame from the end of the picture because I
didn't want it to trigger a recompression by changing a setting.

Normally DCP-o-matic will deal gracefully with overlapping track elements - adding black
or silence as needed. You could actually check wether it's done right when you simply
open the newly created MXF file in Audacity (yes it will open DCP Audio-MXFs directly. You
can then also open your source file and compare both lengths. I would assume that in this
case there is one additional frame of silence.
If you speak CPL-XML fluently, you could probably also identify the proper track length in
there.

The confusing part is that if you just import a video MXF it currently
will not recognise it as such and just pass it to FFmpeg which will
decompress it. That should really be fixed at some point.
