I feel is more this happened, as said in the same
article.
"Details made available with the original release suggest that this 4K
version of Hateful Eight was actually obtained from a legal source
called Okko"
I am nearly sure this is just an upscaled version of the BluRay. Looking at it thoroughly
will probably reveal the source. I have seen people uprezzing stuff to 4k just to show
off.
This one comes with DTS-HD soundtracks. There would be no need to re-encode a DCP LPCM
track to DTS-HD. Also, the original DCP is 4096/1484. If they'd be so excited about
4k, why rescale to 3840? And 25fps?
Also, it raises some special excitement because people unfamiliar with the DCI security
system seem to think that once one encrypted DCP has been 'cracked', the DCI
security system itself is broken. But that is not the case. Every new encrypted DCP is a
new challenge because of their unique keys.
