Hi all,
I'm trying to open DCPomatic Player 2 (version 2.12.5) on a mac i7 with
current software and it keeps hanging on "Verifying..." but then eventually
opens after about 5 minutes.
I've used it before and not had this issue. I just re-installed and same
issue. Hmm.
Anyone else with experiencing this?

I’ve had that same issue. Never found a solution. I’ve experienced it on
four different Macs all running High Sierra

Did you try to close and re-open it immediately after it finally opened for the first
time?
Did you notice there is a readme in the DMG?

I am not the original poster, but I can verify – having just downloaded the latest test
version...
that there is a Readme in the DMG that says there may be a delay the first time
that it opens immediately the 2nd time
that while it is seemingly hung there, Activity Monitor says it is churning away at a task
called XprotectService. For me (4,2 GHz Intel Core i7) it had 3 threads at 98% for 2
minutes 30 seconds.
…a small price to pay.

And it's not only for the player, it it happens with all 5 dcp-o-matic applications.
But it's only a one time issue.
Yeah, if you download new test versions frequently, it might become a bit more annoying,
but, it's caused by the code signing and verification that was introduced lately. The
good thing, you do no longer need to confirm incoming connections for dcp-o-matic main
application, batch converter and encode server. That will save you many clicks in the long
run.

Hi Joaquin,
We see this a fair bit and all we have worked out so far is that Apple's
tools are doing "something" during this 5 minutes but we don't really know
what.
It should only happen the first time you run the program...

Thanks Carl!
I usually use Dcpomatic Player in Linux and only once in awhile on the mac
I mentioned. After I sent the question above Player opened and then has
been opening quickly since.
