Right now it is not good for much, but still interesting - ffmpeg added J2k MXF support a
while ago, and since dcp-o-matic uses ffmpegfor input, it is actually possible to feed a
DCP-o-matic generated J2k-MXF (or from any other unencrypted DCP) into DCP-o-matic as
source content. Right now, the only option then is to recompress it into another MXF,
which is hardly exciting.
But - wouldn't this be a starting point for 'unwrapping' and transcoding of
existing DCPs to other formats, again by using FFMPEG, this time for ouput?

It's possible, certainly. My concern would be that the interface might
expand a lot and get unwieldy. It seems to me that DCP -> other formats
might be better done in a separate tool, as I can't see a lot of overlap.

up. I just tried an older version of handbrake for Mac, and it didn't recognize the
video. What's certainly special is the DCP style of CPL and separate audio-files. A
good reason to leave this to other tools is that it's rather easy now to read the
MXFs, but to offer useful choices for scaling, processing, and especially output codecs,
is another thing...
I just noticed ONE small benefit of DCP-o-matic being able to read it's own J2K MXFs -
you have a quick preview/check option in the preview window e.g. for trim, AR, etc.

I agree with that (you only have a scope dcp trailer and you want it in
flat). Is it already possible to re-do a DCP from its mxf's nowadays ?
My concern is often about sound, some advertisers sometimes just change
their audio track, or just add a final still image at the end of their
former ad...

Not directly with DCP-o-matic. It won't read the audio MXF, so you just can't
recompose an existing DCP with image and audio. Of course you could convert the audiopart
into WAV/BWF and reimport, but then currently you're back to CLI unwrappers, etc.
