YUV422 10bit avi referes to video codec, bit depth, sampling and file type. Not at all
with the actual color space the movie was graded in. Examples of color space are Rec709,
sRGB, etc... And in making a DCP it is extremely important to get the color science and
the gamma curve the movie was graded in, or it will never be reproduced correctly.

rec709 is a good guess. Is it HD resolution, or SD?
10Bit AVI is bit strange, but, maybe they chose this format to get an uncompressed master.

This is actually not something you can guess at. While Rec709 is pretty standard. I myself
always grade in Rec709, 2.2 gamma. But I also know a lot of colorists who grade in P3
color space with a 2.6 gamma. That is the standard color space and gamma for DCI. I do
Rec709 2.2 because all my work goes for broadcast, DVD, Blu-Ray, Web streaming and
Theatrical. Rc709, 2.2 gamma can be easily converted in all DCP creating software. But if
you guess, and your wrong, it ain't pretty. Even if you guess Rec709 and you are
right, but he used a 2.4 gamma curve, the picture will be way off.
I went to a screening of a movie I color corrected some years back and instead of using me
for the DCP the producer had a friend do it for free. I had no knowledge of this or
communication with the DCP creator until the screening. He guessed wrong and it was a huge
disaster.
Check with the colorist and finisher.

Yes it is indeed a uncompressed master in HD. The h264 version that is
also available for us is 120MB and the YUV422 is about 9GB for the
shortfilm in question ;)

Speaks for rec709 (h264). He probably just chose two different output formats from his
editing application, and aimed for ‚as many bits as possible, and uncompressed‘ with the
AVI version.
There are certainly apps that do allow to do weird things, but YUV is the native domain of
rec601(SD) or rec709 (HD). He probably watched both versions on a computer and found them
‚acceptable‘, so, I’d go ahead with rec709 and have him watch it, either in a cinema, or
on a DCP player or within DCP-o-matic.
Having precise source definitions verified on a calibrated viewing system is obviously
always favorable, but very often all we get is ‚It was perfect on my monitor at home‘.
