I think the "-o-matic" sounds really retro, but I like it since the
film-industry is so old. It is also very different from the other
product-names in this category.
I suggest DCP-o-matic, which is not too different from the current name.

Since creating DCPs takes so much time, I was really happy to see that
OpenJPEG has plans to extend their encoder to use GPUs. This might be the
cheapest way to speed up the encoding, but I still have no real numbers on
what to expect in performance. The graphs I saw were difficult to compare
to modern CPUs/GPUs.
Will it be hard to implement the usage of both the CPU and the GPU for
encoding? Am I silly for hoping this might be good value, or is it
better/cheaper to get more CPUs?

How about "DCP Crunch"?
It definitely "crunches" any kind of video into a DCP, and it's a cool
"hip" sounding name. Plus using that word, you could come up with a
really cool logo/splash screen.
"...-o-matic" sounds kind of retro, like out of the 1960s.

Hi all,
I think it would, on the whole, be a good idea to rename DVD-o-matic to
remove the associations with DVDs :)
Any suggestions from the floor? I am struggling to come up with something
suitably poetic.

Carl
Hi all,
DVD-o-matic version 0.78 is now available from
http://carlh.net/software/dvdomatic/download.php
The notable feature of this release is that it adds translations for
French, Spanish, Italian and Swedish. Many thanks to the translators:

Massimiliano Broggi
Manuel AC
Adam Klotblixt
for all their hard work.
Best regards

Hi all,
I thought it might be nice to put on the DVD-o-matic pages a simple page
of links to cinemas / companies / people who are using DVD-o-matic. If
you'd like that, please do let me know on the list (or directly to
cth(a)carlh.net if you'd prefer). Any details, from just a web link to a
short essay are welcome ;)
Many thanks
Carl
Hi all,
DVD-o-matic version 0.76 is now available from
http://carlh.net/software/dvdomatic/download.php
The main changes in this version are:
* There is a primitive visualisation of source audio levels (see "Show
Audio" in the Audio tab)
* The target rate of the DCP can be specified (rather than DVD-o-matic
guessing).

Carl,
a nice-to-have feature would be being able to stick any source aspect ratio into a flat or scope container -- via pillar- or letterboxing, if required.
For example: NASA has amazing footage of the July 19 2012 solar flare event on http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/vis/a000000/a004000/a004026/, e.g. the 1024x1024 version (http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/vis/a000000/a004000/a004026/AIA304July2012rain_1Kx…), acquired by SDO's AIA.
Apparently in 0.75-1 there is no way to maintain the source aspect ratio of that video -- 1:1 in this case. Or am I missing it?

Hi all,
I've made a start on making DVD-o-matic translatable to languages other
than English. If you would like to contribute a translation, please take
a look at:
http://carlh.net/software/dvdomatic/i18n.php
and feel free to send a message to the list if you have any queries.
Thanks
Carl
Hi all,
DVD-o-matic version 0.75 is now available from
http://carlh.net/software/dvdomatic/download.php
This just fixes problems with YUV444-format videos (e.g. Prores 4444).
Thanks to Thierry Journet for the report.
Best regards
