So you made a new DCP? Or supplemntal (VF)? BTW, sometimes I get errors like "file size [fact size] is inconrrect (should be [expected size])". In this case, if I have not internet access at the moment, or I'm lazy to re-download file :) I edit PKL manually by printing correct size in bytes of file on which I got error. To look size of file you need open properties of file, on which you got error message. Echoing what's already been said: manually editing file size or hash value in DCP XML is a bad idea unless you REALLY know what you're doing. The hash value is there to ensure content has been transmitted without errors. If you change it, you may end up with a corrupt DCP cunningly disguised as a valid one, which may crash the cinema's server during playback. Not good! Carsten mentioned ZIP files and their ability to ensure data integrity. It is true that the ZIP standard includes a checksum on each file in the ZIP, and so when you open a zip you've been sent you can be sure that the data is as intended and hasn't been mangled in transport. This is great but one gotcha: ZIP files bigger than 4GB use an extension to the standard called ZIP64 to deal with the large files. The in-built "Archive Utility" on OS X however doesn't implement ZIP64 properly, and produces non-standard ZIP files. As I understand it, their implementation doesn't include checksumming. So, you can't trust that ZIP files created on a Mac (or perhaps expanded on a Mac) have their data integrity intact. Just mentioning this, as it has bit me in the arse a couple of times... That IS the problem - people seem to think that ExFAT is the better cross-platform solution that NTFS - and so ExFAT drives show up at cinemas to be ingested into DCI servers. When doing large file transfers from Macs, I would opt to use a virtual machine or boot linux. This will also allow to format the drives to specs (MBR, ext2, inodesize 128). I boot my MacBook into GPARTED from a small USB stick to do some jobs. I hate to say that, but when transfering from windows machines, I'd use NTFS. You may run into problems with some very few servers, but in most cases, it is the fastest and safest and easiest way. NTFS works from a Mac as well, but it's dead slow for large DCPs. A networked Linux machine would be a nice solution as well, as clients wouldn't need to know about the file-system they are copying to. And it could serve multiple machines. It is of course somewhat slower than SATA or (good) USB3 transfers. - Carsten

Hi everyone. I met this problem before, in most cases this happens, when you download DCP via internet through ftp-client. Ftp-clients have 2 modes of file transfer - binary and ASCII. In ASCII mode (by default in FileZilla as I remember) text files (CPLs, PKLs and other xml-s are text) may be transfered incorrectly, if host and server OS are different. Windows uses CR+LF as end-of-line symbol, modern OS X and Limux OS use LF as far as I know. Changing transfer mode in ftp-client from ASCII to binary solves this problem. I thought the Doremi HFS+ support was dropped shortly after? Certainly not a recommended format. For transfer I only recommend torrent, hash integrity is in the core of the protocol.
